This painting was born on a winter storm morning in New York City.

Flow of Stars, 2021, Acrylic, 16 x 20
Blue and green have always reminded me of a novel I read when I was a child, Night on the Galactic Railroad (銀河鐵道之夜). I spent all my childhood wishing that I could take a trip to the Galaxy. I felt as lonely a child as Giovanni, the protagonist, and it felt so unfair that he got to travel to the Milky Way with friends and not me…shouldn’t all children get to go?
I wanted to create something airy and dreamy - something that flows in space and free from forms. I still want to see the Milky Way, and maybe someday, I finally will.

Pink Pig Redemption, 2021, Acrylic, 16 x 20
After I finished this painting, I dragged my husband from his PS5 and Red Dead Redemption, and asked how he felt about it.
Tyler told me that he used to hate abstract paintings in galleries when he was a young bachelor, since the artists were “always trying to convince people what the paintings were about,” and that that feels intrusive — abstract paintings are great for observers to free associate to. Then he said, “Dear, as long as you don’t try to convince me that this is about feminism, violence, and menstrual blood…I love it!”
Although I found it very funny that these themes are EXACTLY the inspiration of this painting, I totally agree with Tyler that the creator should leave room for free interpretation. Thus, I am naming it Pink Pig Redemption. Enjoy!
